Changes to dental programs in Ontario

On January 1, 2016, the following 5 publicly funded dental programs were combined into the new Healthy Smiles Ontario program:

Children and youth currently receiving care from the programs listed above were automatically transitioned into the integrated Healthy Smiles Ontario program, which is a free dental program that provides preventive, routine, and emergency dental services for children and youth 17 years old and under from low-income households.

The Healthy Smiles Ontario Schedule of Dental Services and Fees and Operational Guide for Dental Providers have been revised effective January 1, 2019. Please read the notice below for more information.

Private dental providers can access the application form for the Emergency and Essential Services Stream of the program:

Public Health Units can access the Parent Notification and Enrollment Form for the Emergency and Essential Services Stream:

Please note that private dental providers can assess clients and help them to enrol in the Emergency and Essential Services Stream of the program or they can refer these clients to the Public Health Unit for help to access this stream in non-emergency situations and/or during regular business hours.
